The AWARE Story
The AWARE Foundation was established in 1989 by a group of private citizens for the purpose of recognizing and rewarding excellence among Arlington Independent School District classroom teachers. The name AWARE stands for "Arlington Will Award and Recognize (Educational) Excellence."
The AWARE Foundation honors outstanding teachers at an annual spring Awards Banquet. Multiple winners and runners-up for the AWARE Award of Excellence are selected from grade levels Pre-Kindergarten through High School.
At the banquet, each winner of the Award of Excellence is presented a check for $3,000 and each runner-up a check for $1,500. Use of the money is not restricted. All teachers who are nominated for the Award of Excellence receive special recognition at the banquet.
Coming Events
The 2009-2010 Awards Banquet will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, May 17, 2010, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at The University of Texas at Arlington.
At the Awards Banquet all teachers who have been nominated this school year will be recognized and honored. Typically, a winner and runner-up are selected from each of the five categories of Pre K - 1, 2nd through 4th, 5th and 6th, Junior High and High School. However, the AWARE Foundation reserves the right to determine the number of categories and grade levels within each category based on the number of nominations received. Winners will receive $3,000 each; and runners-up $1,500 each. Numerous door prizes for actively employed Arlington ISD teachers will also be given.

Special Announcements
The AWARE Foundation receives 100 percent of its funding from private and corporate funding. Aware is a non-profit foundation with 501(C)(3) status. All contributions to the AWARE Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
